MSG (Ret.) Jeffrey L. Haskins — U.S. Army Infantry

The battledoesn’t endat the front door.

“Absorbing the wisdom of others by listening for the sound of honor.”

From the Back Cover

For twenty-two years, MSG (Ret.) Haskins led Infantry soldiers through the grueling crucibles of Ranger School, the ethnic hatred of Kosovo, the IED-riddled and blood-soaked streets of Iraq, and the freezing mountains of Afghanistan. He survived the ambushes. He brought his men home.

But he soon learned that the most terrifying sound in a Soldier’s life isn’t the hiss of an RPG, it is the deafening silence of a dark living room from a couch at 3 AM, and the quiet ghosts that wait for you in the dark.

The Book

IDEAL LEADERSHIP

IDEAL LEADERSHIP is not a polished corporate seminar. It is a raw, unfiltered field manual forged in the dirt, the dust, and the agonizing weight of command.

Through the IDEAL framework, Haskins challenges you to confront your own scars, define your direction, and transform your deepest pain into a legacy that heals others.

MSG (Ret.) Jeffrey L. Haskins, Author

JEFFREY L. HASKINS didn’t learn leadership in a boardroom; he learned it in the dirt. As a retired United States Army Master Sergeant, he was the standard-bearer, the enforcer, and the senior tactical advisor responsible for the lives, discipline, and lethality of his Soldiers.

Guided by his grandfather’s lifelong lesson to “Absorb the wisdom of others by listening for the Sound of Honor,” Haskins realized that true leadership does not end when the uniform comes off.

Ask anyone who knew him, and they’ll tell you: George Haskins was the greatest man, the greatest mentor, the greatest grandfather anyone could ask for. He carried a rifle across Europe in World War II, then spent the rest of his life quietly carrying something heavier — a lesson he was determined to pass on. “Listen for the Sound of Honor,” he told his grandson.

When the end came, Jeff flew home and sat with him for two weeks. On the last day, he placed his own dog tags around his grandfather’s neck. “So I will always be with you,” he said. His grandfather pulled him into one final embrace and gave him the words that would become his shield: “I have your six. You have nothing to worry about. Go lead your men to victory and come home stronger.”

Those words carried Jeff through Iraq and Afghanistan — through every ambush, every firefight, everything that tries to take a man apart. He would not be standing here today without that armor. And he kept the promise: every soldier under his command, he brought home.

Years later, Jeff knelt at his grandfather’s grave and said it out loud: “This is for you, Grampa. This is for the armor you gave me. For having my six. I kept my promise. I brought them all home.” His wife and infant son stood beside him. The torch had passed.

Today, his grandfather’s dog tags hang around his own neck. Not a keepsake — a reminder. Someone has your six. No questions asked.
